On Orientations | one place after is the first stage in a series of exploration of different notions of orientation. Following (learning to look sideways) in which the upright body constitutes the base of the piece, one place afteraddresses the laying, reclined body. Out of reduced gestures, the horizontal body of An Kaler slowly enters into torsions, unbinding itself more and more from the floor, releasing itself into the space. Together with the visual artist Tiago Romagnani Silveira, light designer Jan Maertens, and musician Brendan Dougherty, a choreographic interplay of light, space, music and movement emerges, functioning both in autonomy and correlation, each time generating a different performance._An_I understand the piece as an installation that works on the questions of spatial orientation and disorientation. As a performer I have to get myself into a state of deceleration so I tune myself in with the music and space/light before the audience arrives – becoming space. That way the audience walks into something that is already taking place.
