A surreal thriller tinged with subversive humor. Equipped with a television and a video camera, Jerez plays an armchair femme fatale who unravels mysterious murders of a series of blonde bombshells. Over the course of the evening, Jerez deconstructs and re-imagines iconic mid-twentieth-century crime fiction._Maria_With this work I wanted to question the point of view of the spectator as well as the power that representation and fiction exerciseover our mechanisms of perception. The created device consists of an armchair, a television and a video camera that I manipulate from the armchair. This way I create a film, of which I am also the spectator, thus splitting reality into a staged and a filmed situation. The Case of The Spectator is my first piece. I started working on it in a meeting between the established artists and young artists that were starting to create their own work. This piece was a two-yearlong process where I developed a specific language. The starting point was to work with the contraries and the tension between different points of view.
